Tag- A Royai Oneshot</u>

Roy Mustang peered out his office window, and heaved a great sigh of boredom. The view out his window was a beautiful one, over looking the buildings of East City, rolling green mountains in the distance. A beautiful sight it was, but Roy had seen it hundreds of times, and he was bored with it.

He decided to sit at his desk and watch his subordinates. Riza was sitting at her desk, reading a book; paperwork- all done- in a nice stack next to her. His other subordinates, Jean Havoc, Heymans Breda, and Kaine Fuery (Fallman had called in sick today) were sitting off in a corner, playing cards.

Roy glanced at the clock on his desk- 5:27 pm. Hughes, stationed in Central Headquarters, would be calling any moment to rant about his daughter again. Thinking of this, Roy sighed again.

The same routine happened every day. Ignoring the looming pile of unfinished paperwork on his own desk, he put his head down in his arms and fell asleep.

~

"Aww, Roy, c'mon! Just look at them!"

"No, Maes!"

"Pleease?"

"I already saw them yesturday!"

"But don't you wanna see them again?"

"NO!"

Maes Hughes had once again been shoving pictures of his new puppy at Roy to see. He was shoving them almost directly in his face, but Roy pushed them away every time. If he keeps this up, Roy thought, we'll be late to school for sure.

Maes huffed, shoving the pictures into the pocket of his jeans.

"Fine then. If you don't look at them, I'll just have to tell Riza someone has a secret crush on her!" he teased, pushing his large glasses back up his nose. Roy made a sort of choking noise as he stopped dead in the road, face as red as a beat.

"Gimme those!" he yelled, lunging at Maes. He wasn't about to let his best friend tell his biggest secret to his longest crush. Maes smirked, and handed over the pictures.

"See, I knew you liked her more than you let on!" he told Roy, who glared at him. He was still blushing as they approached the school house.

When they arrived, they dropped their bags by the schoolhouse, and went to the schoolyard to find their friends.

Every schoolday, they all met under the large oak tree in the schoolyard. Sure enough, as Roy and Maes approached, they were all there waiting for them.

"'Bout time you guys show!" Jean shouted to them, his country-boy accent ringing in their ears. Roy took a seat next to Riza, who smiled at him when he sat. He smiled back, hiding a blush.

"Sorry we're late, guys. My new puppy didn't want me to leave!" Maes explained. He reached for his pocket. "But don't worry, I've got pictures!"

   "NO!" they all shouted.

Giving up, Maes joined his friends on the grass. They all looked very bored as they waited for school to start. Noticing this, Roy came up with an idea.

"Why don't we play tag?" he suggested. They all exchanged glances. A game sounded fun.

After deciding Kaine would be it, they all began running around away from him.

"No fair! You guys are faster than me!" Kaine yelled at them, almost out of breath. He noticed Breda slowing down to a jog, so he took the opportunity to tag him.

"YOU'RE IT!" he shouted, tagging Breda on the shoulder. It was a light tap, but it still caused the chubby, red-headed boy to tumble to the ground.

"Breda's it! Breda's it!" Jean chanted as he started to run in a different direction. Breda picked himself off the ground, and slowly chased the other kids around the yard.

After some time of shuffling around the schoolyard, Breda managed to heard Kaine, Maes and Jean into a corner. While this happened, Roy took this opportunity to admit his crush to Riza. He grabbed her hand, and pulled her to the other side of the tree.

"Hey! Roy, what's the big idea?" she demanded as Roy peeked around the tree's trunk to make sure the others were still occupied. He quickly turned to her, his index finger against his lips, indicating for her to be quiet. Riza's brow furrowed.

"I thought we were playing tag, not hide-and-seek."

"I know, I know." he told her. He felt his heart racing in his small chest; admitting a crush to a girl was no easy task for a nine-year-old. He looked her in the eyes, her expression demanded an explanation. Roy gulped, his mind quickly searching for excuses. Then he realized why he was here.

No, his conscious scolded, Not today. I need to tell her!

Roy gulped again. Riza was getting fed up, and wanted to return to the game.

“Riza… I need to tell you something…” he started, his voice shaky.

“What?” Roy held his breath, and stared at his shoes. His face grew hot as the next words came out of his mouth.

“I have a crush on you…” Silence. He finally found the courage to look up, and noticed Riza’s face was bright red. They stared at each other for a moment, both of their faces several shades of red.

“Roy, I-“ Riza started, before being abruptly interrupted by Breda.

“RIZA’S IT!” he shouted as he shoved the blonde girl from behind. He quickly turned to start running again, before realizing he wasn’t being chased. Noticing this, he turned around to see why. And when he found his answer, he began to giggle loudly.

   Roy and Riza were kissing.

“AHAHAHA!” Breda laughed. “Roy’s kissing Riza! Roy’s kissing Riza!” he sang merrily as the other three boys joined in. After realizing what exactly happened, Roy shoved Riza away from him, and shrieked in disgust.

“EEW! COOTIES!” he shouted, running to Maes. He wiped his mouth fiercely with his sleeve. Riza picked herself off the ground, and proceeded to shout at Roy.

“ROY MUSTANG, I DO NOT HAVE COOTIES!” she yelled, chasing after him. He ran from her, and their own game of tag began as Maes, Breda, Jean and Kaine sang, laughed, and teased them.

He may not have been showing it, but Roy had secretly enjoyed his first kiss.

~

Roy gasped lightly, lifting his head from his arms. He examined his surroundings- still his office. Riza was still reading, and the others were still playing cards. Roy smiled to himself, wiped drool away from the corner of his mouth, and stood.

“Let’s play tag.” he said, stretching. His subordinates stared at him, dumbfounded.

   “Tag?” Riza repeated. Roy nodded.

“Sure, why not? It’ll be good exercise.

   “Is that…allowed?” Fuery asked.

“I dunno. Why wouldn’t it be?” Roy answered, shrugging. Just then, Hughes burst through the door.

   “Hey, Roy! Surprise sur-“

“Maes!” Roy greeted, interrupting his friend. “You’re right on time! We were just heading out to the grounds to play tag!”

“No, we weren’t, sir.” Riza told him.

“Ooh, I love tag! Let’s go!” Hughes said, ignoring Riza.

“Alright! Freetime!” Breda, Havoc and Fuery cheered, jumping up and heading out the door. Defeated, Riza sighed and followed.

~

“Brings back some fond memories, eh?” Hughes said, nudging Roy in the arm as they approached the field located in the back of Eastern Headquarters. The area was more like a park, really, with trees and shrubs growing in nicely kept gardens. Military officers often had their lunch breaks out here.

“Sure does!” Roy said, grinning. “HAVOC’S IT!” he shouted, running. Everyone else began to run as well.

“What? No fair! I’m a smoker!” Havoc protested, huffing after his coworkers. They were all laughing and running around like little boys.

Riza, however, stood on the side, watching with distaste. She had gotten over this game many years ago, and the idea of playing it at her age and while at work was very unprofessional, not to mention downright immature. She sighed.

“Men are so foolish.” she told herself. “Always thinking everything’s a game.”

Roy noticed Riza not participating, and ran over to her. Without a word, he grabbed her hand and dragged her onto the field.

“Sir, what are you doing?” she demanded angrily.

“What do you mean? We’re playing tag!”

“But I don’t want to play! This is a ridiculous child’s game!” Roy smiled.

“Nonsense!” he said simply. “You’ll join us- that’s an order!” Riza sighed. She couldn’t talk her way out of that one.

She tried to free her hand from Roy’s, but he didn’t let her. Instead, he pulled her behind one of the gardener’s sheds.

“Sir, now what are you doing?” she demanded again, both of them trying to catch their breath. But he didn’t answer her. Instead, he pulled her in and kissed her passionately. Riza made a sort of squeaking noise, but finally gave in and leaned into his kiss.

When they pulled away, Roy grinned at her. Riza smiled back.

“Just like when we were kids, huh?” he asked.

“Just like when we were kids.” she repeated, and pulled him into another kiss.

Eheheheh...This is all yer first time reading one of my stories, huh? Well, please don't flame for the horridity. I'm no author, but everyone has the burning urge to write every once in a while, right? ^^;

Anyway, this is a RoyxRiza oneshot. My first Royai story, and first oneshot as well. In case it's kinda hard to understand, when Roy falls asleep, he's having a memory, not a dream.

ANDANDAND, I'm completely in LOVE with the idea of him being friends with all his subordinates when they were little. <3 But I didn't add Fallman, cuz he looks too old to have been the same age as them.

Enojoi. ._.
